Hello, I’m Danielle!
I am married to a wonderful, supportive husband and together we have 5 (soon to be 6!) wonderful children–4 girls, and 2 boys, in that order!
Some Fun Facts About Me:
I grew up in a family of nine children–I’m second!
I play the French horn. Marching band was a huge part of my high school career–I loved it! And I actually went on to study in college, and even got a Masters degree in performance. My horn playing has turned into me teaching piano to my children, though I still play occasionally.
I homeschool my children.
I love using fresh herbs in cooking and dream about having my own herb garden! I’m still working on my gardening skills!
I got married when I was 19 and my husband was 26.
I’ve lived in Utah for most of my life and have only been skiing once…
I prefer preparing and eating plant-based foods, so you’ll find a lot of that here!
My Journey of Homemaking
My journey of motherhood and homemaking has been an experience full of success and failures. I have felt discouraged plenty of times, but hopeful as I strive to create a home that is nourishing to the body, mind, and spirit. I strongly believe that what we put in our bodies matters. What we fill our homes with matters. As mothers, we have the unique influence on our families to create a nourishing home that fills tummies and lifts hearts.
Nourishing Food
I learned this several years ago when one of my daughters developed severe eczema. Having done a little research, I tried to avoid steroid creams, and medication that would mask the problem. I learned about gut health and came to realize the importance of what we put in our bodies. She is not cured completely, but we are much more aware of what triggers eczema flare-ups. A nutritious diet got us out of a very difficult time with an itchy, irritated toddler. Food matters!
Since this time, I have enjoyed understanding why we should put certain things in our bodies, and avoid others.
Frugal Living
This leads me to my next point of frugal living. My interpretation of frugality has changed over the years. I used to clip coupons and buy whatever was on sale. That is until I realized that I didn’t want the coupons to dictate my diet. I learned that it’s okay to spend money on healthier (usually more expensive) sweeteners, oils, and meats, in order to have better long-term outcomes. I learned that being frugal and being healthy often overlap. Being frugal means our family doesn’t eat out very much and it also means that we know what is in our food! I like the idea of both of those things.
My Hope for You
Simple Nourished Home is a place where I hope to inspire you to create your own nourishing home. A place where you are nourished in your body, mind and spirit through good, healthy food, and simple living. Home should be a place where your family can flourish.
